Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, is urging the government to take immediate action to revive Ghana’s cocoa sector, warning that farmers across the country are in deep distress.
Following engagements with cocoa farmers during the Minority Caucus’ nationwide tour of cocoa-growing communities, Annoh-Dompreh said the situation on the ground is alarming, with many farmers battling reduced producer prices and delayed payments.
“Our farmers are in distress, and government must act with urgency,” he stressed.
He also questioned the government’s spending priorities, alleging that substantial public funds are being directed towards party-related activities while cocoa farmers continue to struggle.
“It is deeply troubling that while cocoa farmers face hardship, significant public funds are reportedly being spent on party structures. This raises serious concerns about priorities,” he stated.
Describing cocoa as a backbone of Ghana’s economy, Annoh-Dompreh insisted farmers deserve better support and policy attention.
He is calling on the government to restore fair producer prices and ensure prompt payment to farmers, arguing that resources must be channelled into improving livelihoods rather than political interests.
“The focus must shift immediately. Supporting cocoa farmers is not optional—it is essential,” he added.
Reaffirming the Minority Caucus’ position, he pledged continued advocacy until the concerns of cocoa farmers are fully addressed.
“We will not relent. We will stand with our farmers until justice is restored,” he declared.
