The visit, which began on Friday, June 5, follows an invitation from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and is expected to enhance bilateral ties while creating new opportunities for economic and technical collaboration between the two nations.
According to a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama will engage in a series of high-level meetings and official visits during his stay.
A key feature of the trip will be bilateral discussions between President Mahama and President Lukashenko, followed by an expanded session involving ministers and senior officials from both countries. The talks are expected to focus on deepening cooperation in agriculture, education, commerce, and other areas of mutual interest.
As part of his official engagements, President Mahama will lay a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk to honour Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought during World War II.
The President will also travel to the city of Brest, where he is scheduled to tour one of Belarus’ largest dairy and baby food processing facilities. The visit is expected to support Ghana’s industrialisation agenda by facilitating knowledge-sharing and exploring potential partnerships in agro-processing.
In addition, President Mahama will visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, a historic site that commemorates the Soviet resistance against Nazi forces during World War II.
His itinerary also includes a visit to the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned as one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation.
The state visit is expected to conclude with the signing of at least four bilateral agreements designed to strengthen institutional cooperation and promote mutual development between Ghana and Belarus.
President Mahama is scheduled to return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9.
