Women’s Development Bank Nears Launch as Veep Promises Financial Boost for Women

The Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has assured that the government’s flagship Women’s Development Bank will soon be launched to expand access to finance and business support for women across the country. She made the announcement on Saturday, April 4, 2026, during a courtesy call on Torgbui Sri III ahead of the Norvikporhbe Za Festival. “I want to assure you that we’ve made significant progress in establishing the Women’s Development Bank, and very soon you’ll hear from us,” she stated. “We needed to take our time because of how important this initiative is. Rushing into it would not have helped.” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that the deliberate pace is aimed at ensuring the bank is well-structured to meet the financial and entrepreneurial needs of women effectively. During the visit, she also pledged government support to enhance education and services for children with special needs in the Anlo Traditional Area, following appeals from local authorities. “Children who are born differently or learn in different ways are all part of us. They are God’s special creation, and our responsibility is to support them to function and thrive in their own unique ways,” she said. She further highlighted the need for specialised training for teachers, healthcare workers, and other personnel to better cater for children with disabilities. “We must begin training the right personnel. In some cases, even healthcare providers may not know how to communicate or respond effectively. Equipping them with the right skills is essential to providing the support these children need,” she added.
