Mahama Unveils Bold STEM Push for Savannah Region

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a sweeping set of initiatives aimed at transforming education and boosting economic opportunities in the Savannah Region. Key among the plans is the establishment of modern Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools in Tinga and Busunu, designed to equip young people with practical, future-ready skills. The initiative will be complemented by expanded infrastructure across Senior High Schools and the upgrading of selected Category B schools to Category A status. Addressing participants at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Gonjaland Youth Association in Buipe, Mr. Mahama underscored the importance of education in national development. “Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be,” he stated. Beyond education, the President also outlined plans to construct 24-hour markets in every district. The move is expected to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and provide greater support for businesses—particularly benefiting the youth. Together, these interventions signal a strong commitment to both human capital development and economic growth in the region.
