Four people have been confirmed dead, with 14 others injured following a tragic road crash at Dawadawa on the Kintampo–Tamale Highway in the Bono East Region.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, when a Kia Rhino truck transporting poultry feed collided with a Sprinter bus carrying passengers.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to a distress call at about 6:55 a.m., dispatching an eight-member rescue team led by Assistant Station Officer Emmanuel Agyekum to the scene. The team worked to extricate victims trapped in the wreckage.
According to the GNFS, four victims were retrieved lifeless from the mangled vehicles and handed over to the Police, while 14 injured passengers were rescued and rushed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for treatment.
Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
The incident adds to growing concerns over safety on the Kintampo–Tamale Highway, coming just a day after another fatal accident at Tahiru Akura in the Kintampo North Municipality claimed eight lives and left 27 others injured.
That earlier crash, which occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, involved a Benz cargo truck heading towards Kumasi and a Hyundai bus travelling towards Widana in the Bawku area.
With two deadly crashes recorded within 24 hours, road safety advocates are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution to help curb the rising number of accidents on the highway.
