Boateng calls for stronger economic diplomacy to attract investment

Edmond Boateng, Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is urging Ghana to take a more strategic and intentional approach to economic diplomacy to boost its global investment appeal. Speaking at a high-level meeting with key players in Luxembourg’s financial sector, he stressed that Ghana must align its diplomatic engagements with clear economic priorities. “Ghana must intentionally align its diplomatic engagements with economic priorities, ensuring that international relations translate into tangible outcomes such as increased investment inflows, expanded trade finance access, and deeper institutional partnerships,” he said. Boateng highlighted Ghana’s strengths, including political stability, credible institutions, and a growing private sector, describing the country as a natural gateway to West Africa. However, he noted that these advantages must be actively leveraged through coordinated engagement with global financial centres and investors. According to him, modern economic diplomacy should go beyond traditional relations and act as a bridge between governments and businesses—unlocking capital, supporting cross-border partnerships, and creating real investment opportunities. He also called for better coordination between government policies, private sector initiatives, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad to ensure a unified and results-driven national strategy. Boateng further urged Ghana to confidently position itself as a value-adding partner in the global economy by offering innovation, skilled human capital, and access to a fast-growing regional market. The event brought together officials from Ghana’s mission in Brussels, including Innocent Badasu, along with business leaders and stakeholders from the international financial community. Boateng reaffirmed the commitment of the Honorary Consular Corps to use its global networks to promote Ghana’s economic interests, strengthen international cooperation, and drive strategic partnerships. With global investors increasingly looking for stable and high-potential markets, he believes a focused and structured approach to economic diplomacy will position Ghana as a more competitive and attractive investment destination in Africa.
